As the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina rolls in this weekend, Sandra Bullock is preparing to make a positive impact on a long-devastated New Orleans. Her efforts to restore one local school have earned her a place in the hearts of the staff and students, and her latest contribution will help ensure that the hearts of those same staff and students stay healthy and happy. The Warren Easton Charter High School Health Clinic will open its doors following a ribbon cutting ceremony on August 29th. The clinic, located in a school with a long history of adversity, will offer full-service medical and dental care.
The $700,000 facility is the result of collaborative efforts made by Tulane Medical Center, Louisiana School Health Connection and the Warren Easton Charter High School Foundation. A large portion of the funding comes from The San Francisco 49ers Foundation, The Kellogg Foundation, and Sandra Bullock herself.
Bullock is no stranger to Warren Easton Charter High School: She has been working with the school for years, putting time, money, and more importantly, her heart, into rebuilding after the school suffered $4 million in damages and struggled to reopen.
In July, Bullock was honored by the city of New Orleans for her contributions to the physical and emotional repair of the school and community. The school principal spoke-up about Bullock’s contributions as well, saying: She acts as if all 800-plus of these children are her own.
With a home in New Orleans and an adopted son that was born in New Orleans, it isn’t hard to believe that Bullock holds the city close to her heart and will continue to work to revive the city in years to come.
