Pat & Kim list some tips to help you buy fresh and nutritious at the grocery store to get you seeing some real weight loss results!

According to a new report in the Journal of Consumer Affairs, the real key to weight loss, especially for women in their middle years, is all in reading the labels on the food you buy.

Research has shown that reading the labels is even more important than exercising, but women who practice both healthy lifestyles dramatically increased their chances of noticeable weight loss. This morning, Pat & Kim gave some helpful advice  via WebMD for shopping smart for food that can lead to real weight loss!

  • Shop the perimeter of the grocery store, that’s where you’ll find the fresh foods like fruits, vegetables, dairy, meat, and fish. Avoid the center aisles where all the junk and processed foods are found .
  • Choose “real” foods, such as 100% fruit juice or 100% whole-grain items with as little processing and as few additives as possible. If you want more salt or sugar for some extra flavor, you can add a little yourself.
  • Stay clear of foods with cartoons on the label that are targeted to children. If you don’t want your kids eating junk foods, don’t have them in the house.
  • And most importantly, avoid buying foods that contain more than five ingredients, artificial ingredients, or ingredients you can’t pronounce. Remember, read the labels for real weight loss!
