Many people across the nation resolved to lose weight this new year, and one of the latest gimmicky diets plans making waves this season is the new weight loss book called the 8-hour Diet.

How does the 8-hour diet work? Author David Zinczenko (Eat This, Not That!) writes in the book that it’s not what we’re eating that’s making us gain weight, it’s when.

The idea of the 8-hour diet is that you can loose weight without even trying by just cutting back your eating times to  eight hours a day. What you eat within that eight-hour period is up to you, but after that time cut-off, you can’t eat anything else for the next 16 hours.

Zinczenko claims that those 16 hours are essential for your body to burn up fat for fuel and hence helping you shed those unwanted pounds. While on the 8-hour diet, the plan claims participants can lose up to 2 and a half pounds per week just by scaling back their eating hours.

Shape magazine also notes that in a recent Today Show interview, Zinczenko claims he’s lost seven pounds in just ten days on his diet plan.

Of course this fad diet, like other fad diets, comes with downfalls. Shape also notes that author of The Miracle Carb Diet, Tanya Zuckerbrot, R.D. is skeptical of this miraculous eat-without abandon plan saying that it builds bad eating habits, ruins a good health record, can foster bad moods due to low blood sugar, and can even damage your social life.

So what do you think, would you ever try this 8-hour diet plan to see if it works for you, or is it too good to be true? One thing’s for sure, if you do try it, let us know if it works!
