The 85th Annual Academy Award nominations were announced bright and early this morning in Beverly Hills, and the list offered up a few surprises and snubs!

It’s not which films and actors that were included on the list that surprised us, it’s the ones that were left off that had us scratching our heads.

First up, the Best Picture nominees only included nine films out of the ten slots possible in the category. So which film should have been nominated for that final slot? How about Flight, Skyfall or some even say Wes Anderson’s quirky love story Moonrise Kingdom could have been strong contenders for that spot.

Another surprise we saw on the list was that in the Best Supporting Actor category, all the nominees that include Christoph Waltz, Phillip Seymor Hoffman, Robert De Niro, Alan Arkin and Tommy Lee Jones have something in common; they all have already won an Oscar!

Next up is the biggest snub on the list for Best Director. The nominees of course include the heavy hitters like Steven Spielberg and Ang Lee, but left off two previously thought frontrunners for the category — Ben Affleck was snubbed for his masterpiece Argo (which did get a nom for Best Picture) and Tom Hooper for his adaption of Les Miserables. Also, no nod for previous Oscar-winner Kathryn Bigelow for her Zero Dark Thirty or Quentin Tarantino for Django Unchained.

One last surprise was that the breakout actress in Beasts Of The Southern Wild, Quvenzhane Wallis became the youngest star to be nominated for the gold statue at just 9-years-old!

The 85th Annual Academy Awards take place Sunday, February 24th on ABC…what were your biggest surprises on the list this year?
