With a title like Queen Of Soul, Aretha Franklin has set the standard for many young divas to follow in her footsteps, but this time it’s Franklin who will be paying tribute to some of the great females singers over the decades.

Franklin is working on a new album of “great diva songs” by a range of sensational voices through the years and teaming up once again with music mogul Clive Davis to produce the project with Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and Danger Mouse as co-producers.

In an Pre-GRAMMY party interview with Billboard earlier this month, Davis shared more details on the project saying “[We’re going] to do an album of great diva signature songs and hear that voice, that incredible national treasure voice of all time.”

He added, “Whether it’s Billie Holiday or Dinah Washington, whether it’s Whitney Houston, whether it’s Alicia Keys, whether it’s Adele, whether it’s Ella Fitzgerald, we’re going to find the great, great diva songs and put an original arrangement on them and just hear the Queen of Soul go forth.”

This project marks the first time Franklin and Davis have worked together since the ’80s on hit albums like 1982’s Jump To It and 1985’s Who’s Zoomin’ Who. Franklin announced last March that she’d be working with Davis on a new project, which he says will start recording in “in the next month or two.”
