Just in time for Easter celebrations, the captivating 1973 rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar will simultaneously screen at Laemmle Theatres in six locations around SoCal for one night only.

This hit movie based off the Broadway play from Andrew Lloyd Webber will hit the big screen tonight at 7:30 in a special screening presented by Agape International Spiritual Center’s Youth and Family Ministry.

This modern passion play depicts the weeks leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus and explores the conflicted relationship between Jesus and Judus. This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the film, which stars Ted Neely as Jesus and Carl Anderson as Judas.

“We encourage 70s dress to create a nostalgic, party atmosphere at the film screenings,” said Rev. Leon Campbell, who heads the Youth and Family Ministry.

Tickets for the one night only screening are $15 with proceeds raised going towards Agape’s Carl Anderson Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Participating theaters are located in Santa Monica, West Los Angeles, Pasadena, North Hollywood, Encino and Claremont. Visit to find a theater near you and to purchase tickets.
