Could we be hearing new music from Steely Dan in the near future? According to the band members, Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, a new album is “in the air.”

According to Billboard, the beloved jazz-rock duo recently teased the possibility of releasing a follow-up to their 2003 album Everything Must Go in a press interview just days before kicking off their extensive Mood Swings 2013 tour.

“It’s in the air, it really is,” Becker told Billboard the conference call with reporters. “It’s just a smell now. The next thing is then you taste it, then you start to feel it. You know how this goes.”

Fagen added that the prospective will included  “some songs, these really good ones that we only half-finished back in, like, 1984 that we keep threatening to work on,” which Becker continued, “Actually we did finish a couple of those. We have a bunch of things. Put it this way; any other band in the world would have finished or mixed these old things that were lying around and issued them with a great ta-da fanfare. But we just don’t. We don’t play it like that, necessarily. It’s not the way we roll.”

While loyal fans await the duo’s next release, Steely Dan can be seen on the road starting July 19th on their 2013 tour. Select shows will include the duo performing some of their classic albums like  The Royal Scam, Aja or Gaucho in its entirety while others are being billed as Audience Request or Greatest Hits nights.

Steely Dan will be rolling to Los Angeles for a two-night stop at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live Aug. 24-25. For tickets and the complete tour schedule, visit
