2013 is the 150th anniversary of The Emancipation Proclamation. An excellent exhibition of the entire life, its author, our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln is currently on display at The Ronald Reagan Museum in Simi Valley. 25 notable Lincoln collectors, and Dreamworks Studios have joined together to bring you this monumental presentation.

Lincoln was the first Republican to be elected President, at what was to become the most violent time in American history. The Civil War is heavily detailed at the Lincoln exhibit. Highlights of the exhibit include  Honest Abe’s famous stovepipe hat, his gold pocket watch, his early childhood writings, and hand signed copies of The Emancipation Proclamation, and the 13th Amendment.

Moving into more sensitive items, you will also see the bloody pillow on which The President passed away, the day after he was shot at Ford’s Theater by assassin John Wilkes Booth. Also included is a fragment of Lincoln’s coat he was wearing that night, the American flag that draped Lincoln’s coffin, and the handwritten personal testimony of Boston Corbett, the man who killed John Wilkes Booth.

Oscar winning sets from Steven Spielberg’s 2012 masterpiece film ‘Lincoln’, are also on prominent display throughout the exhibit, including the entire set of Lincoln’s White House Office, and the Peterson Boarding House where Lincoln passed away. Lincoln was a decisive, cunning leader, one that gambled it all on what he thought was right for the country.

He richly deserves his place atop Mount Rushmore. Lincoln also had a sense of humor, coining the term “bass-ackwards”, with reference to his own horse riding. The Lincoln exhibit runs through September 30 at The Ronald Reagan Museum.
