Jennifer Hudson is back on the big screen this weekend as her new film depicting iconic South African activist Winnie Mandela, former wife of Nelson Mandela, hits theaters nationwide Friday, Sept. 6th.

Hudson not only transforms into the role of Winnie, known as South Africa’s ‘Mother of the Nation,’ on screen, but also sings on the film’s title track “Bleed For Love,” which debuted on this week.

The emotional song details the love and loyal commitment Winnie had for her husband during his imprisonment in 1963. She sings in the powerful ballad: “Would you lay down your life? Would you give it all? Would you beg and crawl? Would you fall upon the knife? Would you bleed for love?”

Actor Terrance Howard also stars alongside Hudson in the biopic as the great South African President, Nelson Mandela. Hudson’s portrayal of Winnie is the first on the big screen to solely focus on her life and influence from age 19-70, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
