Today (Nov. 7th) is National Men Make Dinner Day, so we decided to round up three 30-minute meal ideas for the man of the house to whip up for the family today!

National Men Make Dinner Day is celebrated on the first Thursday of November every year, and according to the official holiday website, is for the guy who typically doesn’t do the cooking in the household, but is willing to give it a try!

However there are some rules for this dinner challenge; guys can’t serve up the following, no matter how tempting it may be – chewing gum, cotton candy, take-out pizza pogos, left-overs from last night, sandwiches from office vending machine, neighbors left-overs from last night, and most importantly…anything bar-b-qued.

Guys, are you ready to give it a shot? Check out the following simple 30-minute meal ideas from below:

Chicken Marsala


1/4 cup all-purpose flour for coating

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves – pounded 1/4 inch thick

4 tablespoons butter

4 tablespoons olive oil

1 cup sliced mushrooms

1/2 cup Marsala wine

1/4 cup cooking sherry


In a shallow dish or bowl, mix together the flour, salt, pepper and oregano. Coat chicken pieces in flour mixture.

In a large skillet, melt butter in oil over medium heat.Place chicken in the pan, and lightly brown. Turn over chicken pieces, and add mushrooms. Pour in wine and sherry. Cover skillet; simmer chicken 10 minutes, turning once, until no longer pink and juices run clear.

Easy Beef Stroganoff


1 (12 ounce) package egg noodles, cooked and drained

6 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced

1 onion, chopped

1/4 cup butter

2 pounds lean ground beef

4 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups beef broth

1 cup sour cream

salt and black pepper to taste


Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Cook egg noodles in boiling water until done, about 8 minutes. Drain.
Meanwhile, prepare the sauce. In a large skillet, cook mushrooms and onions in 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat until soft; remove from pan.

Using the same pan, melt remaining butter. Cook ground beef in melted butter until browned. Mix in flour. Stir in beef broth, and cook until slightly thickened. Add mushroom and onion mixture; stir in sour cream. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Continue cooking until sauce is hot, but not boiling. Serve sauce over egg noodles.

Chipotle Shrimp Tacos


1 (12 ounce) package bacon, cut into small pieces

1/2 onion, diced

2 pounds large cooked shrimp – peeled, deveined, and cut in half

3 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, minced

12 corn tortillas

1 cup chopped fresh cilantro

1 lime, juiced

salt to taste (optional)


In a large, deep skillet fry the bacon over medium-high heat until evenly brown. Drain the bacon fat. Add the onions to the pan with the bacon and cook 5 minutes or until the onions are translucent. Stir in the shrimp and chipotle chiles; cook 4 minutes or until heated through.

Heat tortillas on an ungreased skillet over medium-high heat for 10 to 15 seconds. Turn and heat for another 5 to 10 seconds. Fill the heated tortillas with shrimp mixture. Sprinkle with cilantro, lime juice, and salt.
