Can it actually be 25 years since Boyz n the Hood came out? Indeed it has.

Director John Singleton made his debut with a script he wrote starring Ice Cube (his first film also), Cuba Gooding Jr., Angela Bassett, Laurence Fishburne and Morris Chestnut. Singleton was the youngest person ever nominated for a directing Oscar, and the first African-American. He will be attending the 25th anniversary screening  this Friday night at the 7th annual TCM Filmfest.

Singleton is joining other all-star celebrities including Angela Lansbury, Faye Dunaway, Stacy Keach, Rita Moreno and many more as film fans from all over the world flock to Old Hollywood for a diverse list of films including All The President’s Men, Network, (introduced by Faye Dunaway), One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest (with Christopher Lloyd), and director Francis Ford Coppola who will have his hand and footprints added to 90 years of film favorites in the courtyard of the TCL Chinese Theater.

Billy Dee Williams and Burt reynolds were scheduled to appear this year, but their appearances have been cancelled.

Nearly 100  films  will shown on the screens that first hit Hollywood in the 1920’s including The Egyptian, and the Chinese. Former Batman Adam West and Lee Meriwether will join film fans around the swimming pool at the Hollywood Roosevelt for a rare screening of the 1966 Batman movie, which was released right after the first season of the hit TV show aired.

The TCM Fest has become a cult hangout for over 26,000 people who love classic films. Tickets sold out in 14 minutes this year to fans from all over the globe.

Drama, comedy, sports, religious and even films about animals (Lassie, the Yearling) are woven together for a diverse display of “films that move people,” which is this year’s theme.

Lassie is actually scheduled to attend (probably the great great great granddaughter of the original).

Unfortunately longtime  TCM host Robert Osborne will not be there this year, but Ben Mankiewicz will be. I’m attending a bus tour of old Hollywood haunts with Ben Friday.

Already planning for next year’s festival, TCM has rumored that Barbra Streisand and Sidney Poitier are considering appearances.
