Grande paid tribute to her "angel" Whitney Houston.

The televised summer music series Greatest Hits came to its conclusion last night, and Ariana Grande brought the house down with a Whitney Houston medley. She performed “How Will I Know” and “Queen of the Night”; the former was orchestrated in the ambient style of LMC’s 2004 hit “Take Me To the Clouds Above.”

Grande’s song selection and arrangement was on point—the mark of a true fan, not just somebody who’s feeling thirsty to sing “I Will Always Love You” on live TV. Even her futuristic getup was a subtle homage to the “Queen of the Night” sequence in The Bodyguard. Before the show, Grande tweeted, “honored to be paying homage to my angel tonight.”
