We’re getting our first look at the upcoming film Hidden Figures, starring Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae.

The story centers around three African-American women who helped make John Glenn the first person to orbit the Earth in 1962.  The film is based on Margot Lee Shetterley’s upcoming HarperCollins book Hidden Figures: The Story of the African-American Women Who Helped Win the Space Race, which hits shelves in September.

Taraji P. Henson will play the part of Katherine Johnson, a math scholar who had an important role for the Apollo missions to the moon. Oscar winner Octavia Spencer will star as Dorothy Vaughan, Katherine’s boss.  Janelle Monae will star as Mary Jackson, the youngest NASA engineer of the three.

The film also features original music by Pharrell Williams.

Hidden Figures hits theaters January 13, 2017.
