LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles City Council has declared Wednesday as Kobe Bryant Day in Los Angeles as a way of thanking him “For his single-minded dedication to excellence, the fans and the entire city and the region.” The date, 8-24, commemorates the two uniform numbers he wore during his legendary career.

Bryant, who won five titles and played his entire 20 years in Laker purple and gold, wore 8 for the first part of his career then switched to 24.
