About The WAVE

logos About The WAVE

The WAVE was born on Valentine’s Day,  February 14th,  1987.  It was not only the beginning of a new radio station;  a format was born that day.  The press release heralding the launch of this new format concluded with “KTWV,  The WAVE is the first station to embrace the best forms of today’s music, and provides Southern California with a true radio alternative that satisfies listeners’ needs in the car, at work and at home.”  Over two decades have passed since that statement was made, and it still holds true.

The WAVE is Southern California’s Smooth Adult Contemporary radio station, playing a  mix of vocals with pop instrumentals.

Some of the artists you hear on The WAVE are George Benson, Sade, John Legend, Beyonce, Kenny G, Simply Red, Vanessa Williams, Dave Koz, Santana, Anita Baker, Boney James, Luther Vandross, Chaka Khan, Sting, David Sanborn, Seal, Norman Brown, Mariah Carey and many others.

Our on-air goal is to make people feel good.  The music,  the presentation by our seasoned staff of air talent,  our promotions,  community involvement and literally every other element broadcast over the airwaves contributes to that “feel good” concept.

It is a philosophy we carry over to our clients as well.  We feel fortunate in being able to turn our passion for music into a viable,  successful vehicle for both our listeners and advertisers.

94.7 The WAVE is Southern California’s Place to Relax…and Unwind.

It’s ashame that you can’t listen to 94.7 the wave any more outside USA. What happened? Most radio stations you can listen outside USA via web. Is CBS going backwards?

I’ve been listening to The Wave since that first day the station went on the air back in 1987. The station and my son were “born” the same year. What I’m wondering is how I might find playlists of songs that were played back in those early days – especially between 1989-1992- and before the smooth jazz format was adopted. Still love the station…just trying to find some of those awesome New Age instrumentals you guys used to play back then.

I have to wonder if those who mention ” smooth jazz” have listened in awhile. Did they miss the gradual, and now total, transformation to “adult contemporary”?

I even wonder about that title since it seems much of the current play list consists of old and new “soul” or “R & B”. BTW folks, just because a song has a sax in it does not make it jazz.

The WAVE has lost it’s way and I can hardly listen anymore. It’s no longer distinctive and just sounds like any other “adult contemporary” station.

Thank God for Sirius Satellite Radio’s “Watercolors” (71) and “Spa” (73) where I can still find contemporary, smooth, and fusion jazz as well as “new age” music.

I have been a long time listener of the Wave, going back to the “New Age” era from the late 1980s-early 90s.

I am looking for a very rare song that was played in mid 1989. I think (not sure) the title was Eu Te Amo, by a Brazilian artist. What I do remember vividly was that the chorus was sung by Robert Plant. He sang “eh,eh, eh, eh, eh, eh ay ay ay ay” or something like that.

Does anyone remember the exact song name and artist? Please help!

I’m sorry, I meant to say Robert Palmer, NOT Robert Plant.

But this rare Wave song from 1989 had Robert Palmer singing backup vocals-the chorus of the song.

It was great to see the play list from the 1980′s listed here. I really would love to see the play list of ‘World Music’ that used to play on the Wave also in the late 1980′s and early 1990′s. I have been searching for a song, but cannot find it, since it seems to be in a foreign language, perhaps African singers. I only remember the melody.

I’m trying to create i-Tunes playlist of absolute classic new age-smooth jazz hits. Has there ever been a list of memorable hits put out there of songs played on the Wave over the 25 years. I’m talking instantly identifiable songs along the lines of George Benson’s “Breezin”, Spyro Gyra’s “Morning Dance”, Earl Klugh’s “One Night” or David Arkenstone’s “Valley in the Clouds”. Thanks
