Demi Lovato Is 'Hurt' She Can't Give Grandfather Proper Funeral Amid Pandemic

'Until we meet again someday'

July 2, 2020

Singer Demi Lovato and her immediate family are in mourning over the loss of her grandfather, who passed away after years of illness on Wednesday.

In a post on Instagram, Lovato paid tribute saying her grandfather, Perry, had "loved God fiercely" and had "been sick for a couple years now," but she will always remember him as "one of the best preachers I've ever had the honor of witnessing spread the word of God."

Grandpa Perry's passing amid the COVID-19 pandemic makes it especially hard for the family to properly grieve with each other or hold memorial services given strict social distancing guidelines as well as the temporary closure of many memorial parks.

"It still hurts to think our family won’t get to say goodbye with a proper funeral for a while. But that’s the reality during this pandemic," Lovato acquiesces. "I’m sorry we didn’t take more pictures together but I have so many memories to make me smile until we meet again someday."

In other news, Demi most recently made an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show revealing how she's looked up to Clarkson for some time, and how she's helped her to be open about depression. She's also been cozying up to her new beau, Max Ehrich, sharing cute selfies on their social channels.
